Hi, Ari. New fan from Northwest BC Canada! Great work, man.
What about rural communities? Would you say exodus is always the answer? There's a few old dance/sports halls around here but they're purely rental based and none of them are music specific. Few bars as well. Would it be weird to ask a coffee shop owner to host an event if we play loud raucous old-school rock?
Where's the nearest city? If you can rally up enough in your local community to fill the dance/sports hall, setup sound/lighting and rent it out and sell tickets, that could be worthwhile. You'd have to really promote it hard, but if nothing else happens in town, you could get the town to rally around it and get out to it.
Congratulations on your success and thank you for the inspiration. I recently moved to LA with a bachelors degree in marketing with a dedication in music business. What advice do you have for someone who is trying to become a band manager but has no experience? I've been doing a lot of networking, talking with musicians, and reading anything I can get my hands on but i'm not fully satisfied with the level of my progress. With a lot of competition in the industry, i've had little (or no) success in landing an internship or an assistant position and i'm contemplating going back to school just to qualify myself for internships (college credit) with management companies. I know my angle is a bit different than yours but the industry can overlap in many ways. Your advice would mean a lot!
