How can a musician get his music heard by the right people??
Well, this is the wrong mentality for the DIY world. There aren't "right people" anymore. You have to put in the work to build a grassroots fanbase on your own. There is no one out there that will take an artist who has a great song or album and shoot them to stardom. This doesn't happen anymore. They have to have the complete package: the live show, an existing fanbase, social media presence, youtube presence, press, the image, etc. Start from the ground up. Put the work in. Don't try to hit the "right people" go for "your people" who will like your music. Start to build a fanbase and eventually when you're making waves on your own the "right people" will come to you!
What advice do you have for someone in the planning stages of their show? I'm a very shy person by nature, but love to perform. Yet I still have a hard time connecting with my audience.Ari Herstand (Ari's Take) responded on 02/02/2013 Next question
I'm in a band just starting out in Nashville, we have plans to play anywhere and everywhere once we finish our ep, but how should we prepare to play shows in the most talented and critical city?Ari Herstand (Ari's Take) responded on 02/02/2013
